Antigravity

n.—the moment a center of gravity stops being the only one.

For thirty years, enterprise software organized itself around a small number of heavy stars—ERP, CRM, the office suite—and workflows, governance, and careers learned to orbit them. Antigravity is not the claim that those stars disappear. It is the narrower, more useful claim that they stop being the only bodies with mass.

None of this erases the system of record. ERP stays transactional, stateful, deterministic, built around hard contracts—exactly what agentic AI is not. What changes is the exclusivity: AI comes in to interpret, route, compose, and act across existing systems, without becoming the legal or accounting source of truth itself. The gravity does not vanish. It stops being monopolized.

I keep noticing the same shift at a different scale, in how the chat interface is absorbing what used to require opening an application at all—Chat, then Cowork, then Agent, each one pulling a little more of the work away from the screen that used to own it. Different layer, same inversion: the center that used to be the only candidate for gravity turns out to have competition.

The risk, in either direction, is treating this as physics rather than as a contest. Markets are strategic, not celestial—vendors, integrators, and incumbents adapt to each other faster than any orbit settles. Antigravity describes a real shift in where the pull comes from. It does not predict who ends up holding it.
